Miss Katherine Rymill

The Age (Melbourne, Vic.: 1854- )Aug 1935

Stylishly dressed in trilby, neck-tie and leather belt, champion Adelaidian golfer Katherine Rymill practises her drive at Royal Melbourne Golf Course.

Katherine Rymill (1913-2008) won the Royal Adelaide championships in 1934, 1935 and 1937. Commenting on the NSW “no stockings” controversy of 1935, she said, “In England, players are allowed to appear without stockings in summer and to wear “slacks” in the winter… Playing without stockings makes no difference to one’s performance and it is certainly cooler...”

Katherine worked for the Red Cross during WWII and continued to play golf throughout her life.
