Makerspace Learning Pathways

Accessing our Makerspaces

The equipment in the Makerspaces is available for people aged 15 years or older. People that are under the age of 15 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using equipment in the Makerspaces.

All first time users of the Makerspaces will need to complete a safety induction (see information on booking a safety induction at your local Makerspace below)

All users of the Makerspaces will need to be a member of the City of Melbourne Libraries.

Head over to our FAQ & Contact page for information on locations and opening hours.

We also have items you can borrow and take home.

If you would like to suggest a purchase for new equipment for our spaces or to borrow please use the library contact form and choose "makerspace" as the category.

Makerspace equipment : Kathleen Syme

  • Do you offer Makerspace inductions in Chinese / Hindi?
  • We can only accommodate translated inductions at Library at the Dock. Please book you induction as normal and let the staff know you need a Chinese or Hindi copy of the induction. They will provide you with a booklet and you can read along with the guided tour. If you speak another language and have a friend or family member who can translate for you, just book two tickets for an induction. If you require another language and you do not know somebody who can translate for you, email makerspaces@melbourne.vic.gov.au and we'll be in touch.
  • Do I need to book a time to use the equipment?
  • First time users need to complete a safety induction before using our equipment - you can book an induction for Library at the Dock here, and Kathleen Syme here. People that have completed a safety induction do not need to book before using a Makerspace during our opening hours.
  • Does it cost money to use the Makerspace equipment?
  • No, our filament is free to use. If you're at Library at the Dock or the Elizabeth Street Pop-up Library, we ask that you keep your prints under 4 hours, or under 7 hours for the Kathleen Syme Library Makerspace. You're also only allowed to use one printer per person.
