Image held by East Melbourne Library. Family photo of George and Eliza (nee McKay) Shaw and their eleven children. They independently migrated to Australia from northern Ireland in the 1850s. George and his brother Gavin were wholesale grocers and wine & spirit merchants. They had a store, G & G Shaw, at 35 Flinders Street East. George and family first lived at 19 Jolimont Street, Jolimont, and then moved to a mansion at 108 Wellington Pde, East Melbourne they named 'Tullyvallin'. After their departure, this later became 'Thorlinda Mansions' (around 1921). George was instrumental in the founding of the Cairns Memorial Presbyterian Church in East Melbourne and also P.L.C.
