Card catalogue index drawers can be seen beyond the service desk, and another library patron can be seen reviewing shelves just behind them. Fluorescent lighting can be seen suspended from the ceiling above the card catalogue index drawers, with linoleum flooring throughout. From the window in the right corner, it would appear to be evening. Another staff member, leaning forward, can only just be made out between the patron and a vase (with a floral arrangement) to her left. To the right of the desk, a young boy can be seen standing in what appears to be a reference area with encyclopedias, in front of a wall mounted map of Melbourne and its municipalities. He holds a slightly curious, bemused expression, possibly pondering why such a seemingly innocuous photograph is being taken.
