General notes:
These images were produced by Frederick Oswald Barnett (1883-1972), a social reformer who campaigned for the abolition of inner city slums. When the Housing Commission of Victoria was set up in 1938 Barnett became vice-chairman until 1948. Barnett captured inner Melbourne in glass lantern slide images which were used in presentations to raise funds for the creation of the Methodist Babies' Home, one of Connections UnitingCare's founding organisations. These images are courtesy of Connections UnitingCare. Connections is a community organisation with a history of supporting marginalised and disadvantaged children, young people and families in Melbourne.
