Grading as at 1991: DPeriod: Mid Victorian, built c1880-1881Grantee : W Davis 1867Single fronted houses with notable verandahs and urnsWhen these houses were built in 1880-1, William Vaughan, a porter leased out 515 Dryburgh Street to such as George Robertson, builder and lived in No. 517 until 1890, after which the house was also let. By 1885, he had sold No. 515 to Jessie Hare, a teacher who lived there until at least 1896. Walter Gray, a storeman, owned No. 513 Dryburgh from 1880 and resided there for the next fifteen years.Notable features include the fence, verandah decoration, verandah roof and structure. Side fence remains (spade). An unusual trio, one of two storeys and a pair of one storey, all are of a parapetted form and of stuccoed brick. Remnants of pierced round head pickets exist at No. 517 whilst the other houses adopted differing picket profiles. The entablatures are segment arched, possess panelled piers, acroteria, scrolls and urns above a cornice moulding. Their distinctive features are the hipped, ogee profile or bellcast iron clad verandahs with cast iron posts, friezes and brackets. Vermiculated keystones embellish the upper opening architraves. Contributing part of an important residential streetscape.Architecturally, unusual detailing and verandah shape for this, albeit commonly elevated row's early construction date, generally original condition including picket fences and contributing to an important residential streetscape, of high regional importance. Historically, another localised development, including the developer's home which is clearly differentiated from the rest, also developed by a person associated with one of the area's main industries, the railways, of local importance.
