General notes:
Photograph by C. Nettleton, c 1876.View of North Melbourne Town Hall taken from corner of Errol St and Queensberry St.Notes: It would appear that the building is so newly completed, that it is still to have the clock face installed in the clock tower. Also, there appears to be an industrial shed to the right of the Town Hall, where the future North Melbourne Mechanics Institute is yet to be built. Remarkably, the absence of any human activity is also noted. The site was originally the town Courthouse, and building of the Town hall was completed in early 1876. The cost was £12,000 (approx. $2,116,000.00 in 2020).(Source: https://www.measuringworth.com/calculators/australiacompare/relativevalue.php).The building was designed by architect Mr. George R. Johnson, and the contractor was Mr. David Parry.(Source: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/60447008)The building was renamed North Melbourne Town Hall in August, 1887 when the town was renamed North Melbourne.
