General notes:
Grading as at 1985: CPeriod: Early Victorian, construction date c1864Grantee : John Harbison 1859Historic Building Register no 630, National Trust Register no 3832An Early Victorian house, constructed c1864, with evidence of early colours and finishes, and notable stonework and shutters. The house was built for, or by, Thomas Noble, a carpenter in 1864. He owned and occupied it until after 1882 when other family members, William and James Noble, assumed ownership. Before 1897, they leased to Mrs Foley and Silas Hughes. Noble was responsible for many works in the area, including Moore's Cottages in Chetwynd Street.A two storey part stuccoed and part basalt masonry house with a corniced parapet and quoins to lower openings and corners. Commencing as a three roomed stone house in 1864, it was extended by 1868 to a six roomed residence in the 1869 isometric of Melbourne. Remnants of this growth include the lower party wall, buttressed midillions, whilst the later stage is elegantly shown in sharply defined, but simple detailing at the parapet : a foliated entablature panel, an acroterion, orbs and scrolls. Shutters survive at the lower level.
