Image held by North Melbourne Library. 59 Arden Street. This is an early example of a prefabricated house, owned and occupied by members of the same family for most of its existence in North Melbourne. The last owner, Mary Clague, died c1973. In the 1980's the house was moved to the iron house complex in South Melbourne. (399 Coventry Street). The house is predominantly corrugated iron with a traditional chimney and flue within surrounding power lines. Two white wooden pillars adorn the front entrance, while a white or cream slatted fence accommodates a small wood picket gate with a darker tone. vertical blinds are evident in the front windows.Inscription on reverse side of photograph reads; "Iron House 59 Arden St" in blue pen; and "On Historic Buildings Preservation Register (1977). Built in 1863 + once was typical of many prefabricated iron houses in Nth Melb." in lead pencil.
