General notes:
Period; Date: Victorian ; c. 1871-75Description: The terrace at 18 - 22 Cardigan Street comprises a row of three (originally four) double storey rendered Victorian houses with transverse gabled slate roofs. Constructed on the property line, the houses have double storey verandahs with cast iron lacework friezes, balustrading and palisade front fences set between rendered wing walls. Windows are timber framed double hung sashes, the ground floor window at No. 20 has been altered.Significance: The terrace at 18 - 22 Cardigan Street, Carlton, is of local aesthetic and historical interest. The houses are typical of nineteenth century terrace house development which predominates in Carlton. Relatively intact, the terrace is an important heritage element in the streetscape.
