General notes:
Carlton, Two mothers. Photo caption: ""Carlton. Two Mothers living in house shown in photograph No. 9. Both were under the influence of liquor. The doctor with me, said that one baby had been very ill, and had recovered, but now would die owing to neglect."" This image was taken by the slum abolition campaigner Oswald Barnett. Barnett captured inner Melbourne in glass lantern slide images which were used in presentations to raise funds for the creation of the Methodist Babies' Home, one of Connections UnitingCare's founding organisations. Barnett went on to become a significant figure in housing reform in Melbourne. The image is courtesy of Connections UnitingCare. Connections is a community organisation with a history of supporting marginalised and disadvantaged children, young people and families in Melbourne.
