The home of Sir Norman and Dame Mabel Brookes for over 40 years, Kurneh was the place for grand entertaining. Various members of Royalty, Governors, Prime Ministers & Premiers were entertained within its walls. Gregory Peck and his wife were accommodated in the house while he was in Melbourne for the filming of 'On the Beach' a year before the house was sold and demolished. Dame Mabel also used the house for fundraising for charity, including The Queen Victoria Hospital. Kurneh was used as a hospital during the First World War and was again used asa convalescent home for officers in the Second World War. Demolished after 1960.
