General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1911History:Oxford, at 43 Westbourne Road, was constructed c.1911. The first definite listing of the house in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1912, when the occupant of the house is listed as Charles E Cane..History:Oxford is a raised single-storey block-fronted Edwardian villa with a hipped and gabled Marseilles pattern terracotta tiled roof with bracketed eaves. L-shaped in plan, the projecting bay is gabled with a half-timbered gable end. Raised on a plinth, the verandah is accessed by a short flight of stairs. Alterations including the recladding of the plinth with bricks, the replacement of the original verandah posts with steel posts, the removal of the verandah frieze decoration, the recladding of the roof in terracotta tiles and the replacement of the original windows with steel-framed windows. The steel fence is also not original..Significance:Oxford, at 43 Westbourne Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is representative of the development in the area in the early twentieth century. Aesthetically, the house is a reasonably intact example of the Edwardian timber villas which were constructed in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The value of the house is reinforced by its setting in a largely intact streetscape.
