General notes:
Period: Inter-WarDate: c.1939History: Clovelly Flats, or Clovelly Court Flats, was constructed c.1939. The building first appears in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1940.Description: Clovelly Flats is a three-storey block of Georgian Revival style flats, constructed of orange brick with hipped terracotta tiled roofs. L-shaped in plan, the projecting wing has, at ground and first floor levels, a shallow bow window and a wrought iron balustraded balcony at second floor level. The adjacent curved cantilevered balconies impart a Moderne style character to the building. Windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes. The orange brick and the wrought iron front fence is original.Significance: ...of local aesthetic and historical interest. The building is representative of multi-storey flats which were erected in large numbers in South Yarra in the inter-War period, a major phase in the development of the area. ...a good, if eclectic, example of the Georgian revival style popular during the 1920s and '30s.
