General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1912History:The house at 19 Epsom Road was built c.1912. It was first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1913, when it was occupied by John Dowling..Description:Beydon is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian villa with a corrugated galvanised steel hipped and gabled roof. L-shaped in plan, the house has a projecting gabled section with carved timber bargeboards, half-timbering and roughcast render to the gable end. The adjacent bullnose verandah has turned timber posts and cast iron lacework. Windows are narrow, paired, timber-framed double-hung sashes, and the chimneys is of red brick with a corbelled capping. The timber paling front fence is not original..Significance:Beydon, at 19 Epsom Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. It is a reasonably intact example of the type of Edwardian villas which were built in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. It represents the major, formative phase of development of Kensington west of Epsom Road. It relates visually to its neighbours at 7, 17 and 21 Epsom Road.
