General notes:
Image held by North Melbourne Library. Hugh Gracie's Hotham Saw Mills, Victoria Street, near the corner of Chetwynd Streets, North Melbourne. Hugh Gracie was a prominent local, and served on council. Gracie Street is named in his honour. Also in this image, on the left side of Victoria Street, R English, importer of gasaliers, brackets and gasfittings, P Conway, grocer, and the Three Crowns Hotel. On the right looking down from the saw mills, Robert Baynes Store labelled "multum in parvo" (a great deal in a small space, or much in little) 444-446 Victoria Street, an impressive curved terrace built in 1873 and still extant, George Hill, family grocer, George Hotel, and F Cox, draper, on the corner of Errol Street. In the distance is the Benevolent Asylum.
