General notes:
Abattoirs and Cattle Markets Department Annual report for the tear ended 30th September 1944. Meat rationing had begun in January in order to maintain supplies to the Armed Forces but did not affect activities. There was ongoing compulsory acquisition of beef for canning. As there was a weight condition for this, weighing facilities needed to be added. There was an issue with the lack of improvements in the mutton slaughtering area. There were new improved cold air fans in the chilling blocks.Sales of sheep and lambs were limited to two days under the Newmarket Sheep Sales Act, but due to the emergency conditions an extra day was requested.
