General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1912History:The house at 48 Kensington Road was constructed c.1912. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1913, when the occupant was Robert Shannon, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 48 Kensington Road is a single-storey block-fronted Edwardian cottage with a hipped and gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. The projecting gable is half-timbered with roughcast render infill, and windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes. A small verandah extends across the facade, with turned timber posts, timber fretted frieze, carved timber brackets, scalloped fascia and simple timber balustrade. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 48 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
