CowperNewspapers: Herald, Thursday 6 November 1919 page 12EIGHT STORIES IN REINFORCED CONCRETEOn the site now occupied by "Furnivall's Inn Chambers" Chancery Lane is to be erected for Mr Chris A. Cowper, architect of Collins Street, an up-to-date edifice of eight stories, to be known as Chancery House. A concrete has been let to the Reinforced Concrete Company, and it will begin the erection of the building at once. The demolition of the old structure has begun. The now building will have reinforced concrete floors, finished with parquetry and other materials. The main corridors running through the centre of the building will be 8ft. wide, and have rubber covered floors, with walls panelled in blackwood. There will be three staircases off the corridors, ensuring ample means of escape. Strong-rooms are to be provided in the larger offices, and subdivisions will be made as required for prospective tenants. The building will have an efficient lift service, both manually and automatically controlled. Lavatories will be provided on each floor. This will be the first office structure to be erected in full compliance with the now building regulations of the City Council, and light and ventilation will represent an advance upon previous construction. The front has been simply designed on the lines followed by modern office buildings in America and elsewhere. Plain piers, running vertically, separate the various tiers of large window, and these are surmounted by a heavy cornice of some 4ft. projection.
