Curtis, managing director of Preston Motors Pty. Ltd., has been with the company since its inception in 1913, when it took over the business of the Preston Carrying Company, which was established in 1911. In that time the turnover has increased from a few hundred pounds to £1,250,000 in 1937, and the number of employees from four to 300. In the early stages selling activities were confined to the marketing of Buicks and Fords as sub-agents for the existing distributors, but in 1919 Mr. Curtis went abroad and secured several valuable agencies. The company's growth was so rapid, there- after that it moved to new and larger premises several times, finally taking over the present premises in 1933, while still retaining showrooms in Franklin street. The company is now metropolitan distributor of Buick and Chevrolet cars, and ope- rates 11 sales and service branches in the metropolitan area.
