The plans have been prepared by Messrs. Arthur W. Purnell. Round and Graham, architects and constructional engineers, U14 Collins street, Melbourne, with Mr. J. A. Laing, M.C.E., consultant. Tenders are now being invited for the carrying out of the work.Thirty years ago the Cyclone Woven Wire Fence Co. (as it was then known) began operations in a small factory in Franklin Street, Melbourne, the fence then marketed being woven on the posts by means of a portable hand-weaving ma chine. This was the first Introduction to Australia of the machine- woven fence. Shortly after the first 'Cyclone' fence was introduced the manufacture of tubular steel gates was undertaken, and from this point the business developed rapidly. Larger premises became necessary, and a large and well-equipped factory was built at the corner of Swanston and Franklin Streets. The business was formed into a company. Ornamental wire fabric fences were next manufactured followed later by the manufacture of wire cloth (fly wire. etc.). By this time the Swanston Street premises had proved Inadequate, and in 1924 it factory site of three acres at Abbotsford was purchased, and a large modern factory built thereon. At present there Is being installed at the Melbourne factory a complete electro-galvanising plant, for the production of wire cloth, galvanised after weaving, which is the latest practice in the manufacture of this article. Factories have also been established in New South Wales and south Australia.-The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957) Thu 23 May 1935 Page 13No Bid for Cyclone House No offer was received for Cyclone House, a three-story concrete building, at 17 Hardware street, which was submitted for auction by George a. Henderson Pty. Ltd, yesterday. The building will be offered for private sale.
