Grading as at 1999 : DPeriod : Early VictorianThese four houses were built c.1872. The houses were first listed in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1873, when the occupants were William Blackwell, Robert Young, Arnold McKechern and Thomas Foley. The following year, the houses were listed as Ravenscraig Cottages. The rate books of 1891-92 list the houses as four room brick dwellings, each valued at £28. The occupants of the houses were listed as a brass finisher, blacksmith, carpenter and moulder, with all the cottages owned by a Mr RobertsonIt is a row of single-storey, single-fronted nineteenth century houses constructed as two pairs. Nos. 645-647 have a corrugated galvanised steel gabled roof and verandah, with a timber frieze detail. Nos. 649-651 have retained their original gabled slate roofs. Each façade has a single timber-framed double-hung sash window beside an entrance door. The chimney has been removed from No. 645. A second storey addition has been added to the rear of No. 651.They are of local aesthetic and historical interest. The houses are representative of the type of terrace housing constructed in the area in the 1870s. Despite alterations and additions, the nineteenth century qualities of Ravenscraig Cottages remains apparent and are reinforced by the group setting.
