A. Palfreyman) said to day that his firm would be opening showrooms in the city within three weeks. The new showrooms, which are situated at 295-301 Exhibition Street, have a surface area of more than 5000 square feet j of showroom space, the floor of which is constructed of polished jarrah. The walls arc of sand plaster, and roomy office accommodation is provided. The frontage facing Exhibition Street consists of a very large display window. The stock to be displayed will consist of both trucks and used cars, while the premises in South Yarra will still be continued with repair shop, service station and showrooms..The Herald (Melbourne, Vic. : 1861 - 1954)Wednesday 29 July 1936 - Page 16https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/244754737 illustAnother example of effective modernisation of an old building, while retaining the soundly built walls and other portions of the original structure, is provided by new show-rooms, now nearing completion for Palfreyman Motors, at 293-301 Exhibition -Street.The building, which was originally of brick, with timber floors and concrete stairs, was divided into two units, separated by divisional walls. The complete demolition of the stairs and divisional wall on the ground floor, and the introduction of a complete new front, has allowed for the provision of a large show-room, with double windows, well suited to motor car display.Columns supporting the first floor have been so spaced as to provide unobstructed areas of 30ft. on the ground floor, entrance to which will be by a new ramp, with doors at the rear. A new side stairway of jar rah has been introduced connecting with the first floor. Show-room walls are of sand-finished plaster, with hard plaster finish to the ceilings, and a new jarrah .flooring. The front has been rendered with finishing of washed Cranbourne sand, and white cement with base and mullions for upper windows of two-inch special bricks.Architects for the work are Messrs Marsh and Michaelson. of Swanston Street.1940 offered for sale `A modern city showroom and factory at No. 259-301 Exhibition Street will be offered at auction on March 19 by George G.
