Brash and Co., piano importers.Sixty - three years ago, the Into Marcus Brash opened business on the site of the new structure, and his two sons, Harold and Alfred, now carry on the concern. In the possession of the pre sent members of the firm there is now an old blurred photo graph taken in 1862, showing the Elizabeth- street of that day.Of the buildings shown in that photograph, only two now remain -tho warehouses of Messrs M'Ewan and Co., hard ware merchants, and Mr R. White boot manufacturer.Of the others, which were chiefly single- storeyed, the last to go was the building recently razed to make way for Messrs Brash and Co.'s new warehouse. The photograph in question has some notable features. One of these is the old Hobson's Ray railway station, which appears as an imposing line of shelters on the southern skyline, and the other is the presence of a double line of arched gutter bridges, extending up and down each side of the street at short intervals. The new warehouse, of which Mr. J. Plottel is the architect, consists of shop, offices and showrooms on the ground floor, and three floors above, with workrooms on the top floor. Above these there is a flat roof, fitted with lavatories. An electric passenger lift will serve the five storeys. The ground floor is to be finished with panelled maple dadoes and office screens, with wood block flooring, and there will be silencing rooms on the second floor, fitted out with maple panelling and screens of maple and bevelled plate glass..Construction and Local Government Journal (Sydney, NSW : 1913 - 1930) Wed 9 Sep 1925 Page 18OPPORTUNITIESJ, Plottel is the architect for the new warehouse nearing. completion for M.
