General notes:
Period: VictorianHistory:The house at 27 Wolseley Parade was built in 1886 for Walter Coop. The rate books of 1885-86 show Coop, a blacksmith, to have acquired Lots 77 and 78 of the Kensington Park Estate from Henry Pratt. By early 1887, Coop was the owner and occupier of a six-room brick house with a Nett Annual Value of #40 which had been erected on one half of Lot 78. By this time, Lot 77 had been acquired by Eliza Lind, although Coop retained the vacant half of Lot 78 until at least 1890. Members of the Coop family lived at No. 27 until at least 1922.Walter Coop (c1858-1898) was a member of the prominent ironmongering family, and was responsible for the construction of Coop's shot tower in Knox Place., Melbourne (now within Melbourne Central), which was the first shot tower in Victoria and the tallest structure in the city..Description:The house at 27 Wolseley Parade is a single-storey bichromatic brick Italianate style residence with a hipped roof with bracketed eaves. Body bricks are brown, with cream brick dressings. L-shaped in plan, the projecting bay has a pair of semi-circular arched windows. The bullnose verandah has turned timber posts and ornate cast iron lacework. The entry door has sidelights and a fanlight, and the adjacent window is a tripartite timber-framed double-hung sash. Chimneys are of brick, with moulded rendered cappings. The roof has been reclad in tiles, and the brick front fence is not original..Significance:
