H. Newman and Sons Propty. Ltd., jewellers, died after a short illness on Saturday. The late Mr. New man came to Melbourne in the sailing ship Prince Alfred in 1852, and joined the rush to the Ballarat gold fields. Not meeting with success there, he returned to Melbourne, and opened a jeweller's shop in William-street, near the corner of Collins- street.He returned to England in 1856, and marrying there brought his wife back in the same year.
