General notes:
Grading as at 1999 : DPeriod : Mid VictorianThe houses at 9-11 Union Street were first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1887, when they are listed as Nos. 5 and 6. The first occupants of the houses were Phillip Danahar and Mrs Agnes Scott. They are a pair of single-storey weatherboard houses with longitudinally gabled-roofs with carved bargeboards. No. 11 retains a weatherboard gable end, while that on No. 9 has been reclad. A shared skillion-roofed verandah with a corrugated galvanised steel roof and timber posts extends across the façade of both houses. Windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes with moulded timber architraves. They are of local aesthetic and historical interest being relatively intact examples of their type, which visually relate to the adjacent pair at Nos. 13-15. The scale of the houses is typical of the modest workers' housing constructed in the area in the 1880s, however, aesthetically, their simple gabled form is unusual for the period. Despite alterations, the nineteenth century character of the houses remains apparent.
