RESEARCH ADDED BY GRAEME BUTLER 2021:__________________________________________________Period: Inter-War;DATE: 1925-6;ASSOCIATIONS: Pauline et Cie Pty Ltd (Mabel Gray; Mary Elizabeth Gray) ;DESIGNER: Klingender , F L and K..GRAEME BUTLER 1985 MELBOURNE CENTRAL ACTIVITIES DISTRICT CONSERVATION STUDYBUILDING IDENTIFICATION FORM.NEWSPAPERS (TROVE)1904https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/174651228PAULINE ET CIEThe Misses Cochran and Gray, milliners, of the Block Arcade, Elizabeth-street, Melbourne, are now making their first show of spring and summer millinery models. Originality of design is always a feature of the millinery shown by this firm. Another leading characteristic with them is the diversity of the beautiful trimmings they import, and the artistic manipulation of same. They would seem to have made this a special stud v. The result is that no two models are in any way alike. They have a few of the mantilla hats, but not many: their fancy seems to run more into chip - hats, of which they have many smart models'.A cool green chiffon hat of the mantilla order, ,, with roll-like trimming to the front of gathered chiffon, was softly draped with a black-velvet cherry embroidered lace. The draping 1 "Vas' arranged in a fan-like mantilla back, set with quaintly patterned jet cabochens. If there is anything quite new or only just creeping into - favour these clever millinery designers always seem to be the first to light on it. In illustration of this we noticed a torpedo toque with a crown of white moire; over the corded brim was gracefully draped beautiful ivory lace, massed most effectively at the back. One side of the toque was swept with a paradise plume. Another toque modelled in shape on the same lines was of blue crepe de chine, finished at the back with a lovely bow of floral ribbon in a dreamy design, set with a floral buckle of crimson briar roses: the corded crown was trimmed with a most effective trimming of frayed ribbon. Two American beauty roses formed the only trimming of a black lace hat, formed of narrow accordion frills of black lace. One rose was set in front with long trailing foliage; the other formed a cachpeigne-like trimming at the back. An extended notice will appear next week.1910https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/175609245PAULINE ET CIE.Pauline et Cie sent a member of the firm to London and Paris this year to secure the very latest modes in millinery. Amongst the models which were secured were some particularly attractive motor bonnets, which are positively the last cry in Paris. These bonnets have caused quite a sensation in Australia, which is hardly to be wondered at when one realises their charms. It is imperative to-day for. a Society woman to have motor bonnets, and it is not at all an easy matter to find models which are at once becoming and comfortable. Pauline has, in addition to the usual distingue millinery, a delightful array of holiday hats, which are exceedingly comfortable and equally smart.1925The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957)Thursday 3 December 1925 - Page 11https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/2170649COLLINS STREET PROPERTY.Sold at £2.565 a Foot. The record price of ₤2565 a foot was obtained by private sale for the premises at 256 Collins street which were occupied by the proprietors of the Walk-over Shoe StoreThe two storey building and the land which has a frontage of 16 feet on Collins street was owned by Mr R White boot manufacturer and the purchasers are Pauline et Cie of the CentrewayA four-story reinforced con the building, designed by Messrs F L and K Klingender will be erected on the site1926EVADING DUTY.Pauline et Cie Charged.Plea of Guilty to 68 Counts.https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/98024110The defendants were Mary Elizabeth Gray and her sister, Mabel Gray, trading as Pauline et Cie Proprietary, Ltd. milliners, Collins Street1929https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/244571577PAULINE'S STOCK BOUGHT BY GEORGE'SGeorge and George Pty.
