General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1913History:The house at 74 Bayswater Road first appears in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1914. The occupant of the house was noted as Arthur McLaren. By 1920, the house was occupied by J R Reddick..Description:The house at 74 Bayswater Road is a single-storey single-fronted weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a block-fronted façade and a longitudinally gabled roof clad in corrugated galvanised steel. The façade has an entry door and a pair of timber-framed double-hung sash windows. The bracketed gable end has half-timber and roughcast render infill, while the skillion-profile verandah has turned timber posts and timber fretwork. The timber picket fence is not original..Significance:The house at 74 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is representative of the more substantial villas which were built in great numbers in Kensington during the early years of the twentieth century. The house is intact and contributes to the nature of the surrounding streetscape.
