General notes:
Item from the Newmarket Saleyards Collection. Abattoirs and Cattle Markets Department Annual report for year ended 30 September 1946. Severe drought in 1944-45 affected the figures, as did a major dispute in the Meat Industry. This, and a number of other issues, kept the prices high. There started to be an end to meat control and rationing.Sadly, there was a report that the Senior Clerk of the Department, Mr John Blackie, died in June 1946. He had been employed by the council for 34 years, and 13 at the abattoir.
