General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1906History:The house at 55 Westbourne Road was constructed c.1916. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1917, when the occupant was James Storen..Description:The house at 55 Westbourne Road is a single-storey, weatherboard Edwardian villa with a hipped corrugated galvanised steel roof which is penetrated by a rendered chimney. The small verandah has timber posts and cast iron frieze decoration, and the window is a timber-framed double-hung sash with multi-paned sashes. The high timber picket front fence is recent..Significance:The house at 55 Westbourne Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
