GRAEME BUTLER 1983, CONSERVATION STUDY FOR THE CITY OF MELBOURNE OF NORTH AND WEST MELBOURNEGrading as at 1985 : DPeriod : Mid Victorian (1888)Grantee : J Whitehead 1872History- This former shop was built for a Mr Crockett (possibly Gavan Crockett of Munster Terrace) as a rental proposition. His tenants over the following seven or eight years included John McGregor, Henry Harstow and William Grieve, a bootmaker.Description- A parapetted stuccoed brick shop with timber fronts and an iron Corporation verandah. The parapet has been sheeted over, but otherwise original.Streetscape - Contributive to the Errol Street residential precinct in finish, form and by its verandah.Significance - Architecturally, of intermediate integrity, but represents a type well, with its verandah and shop front elements intact: of local importance.Historically, of local interest as part of a corner-orientated commercial spot in a residential area.Recommendations –• Restore parapet;• record verandah and shop front details for restoration data;• repaint in typical or original colours.References:(RB= Rate book; D= Melbourne or Victoria Directory)1.
