General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction period: c1906History:The house at 69 Westbourne Road was constructed c.1906. It is one of a number of houses on the south side of Westbourne Road constructed in the period 1910-1912. The first definite listing of the house in the Sands & McDougall directory is in 1907, when the occupant of the house is listed as Herbert Beattie..Description:The house at 69 Westbourne Road is a single-storey, weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. Gable ends are half-timbered with roughcast render infill. A small bullnose-profile verandah extends across the facade, forming a porch for the recessed side entrance. Verandah posts are timber, and there is a simple timber bracketed frieze. The boxed bay window has timber-framed double-hung sashes. The timber picket fence is not original.Significance:The house at 69 Westbourne Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
