General notes:
Photo copyright, Dora McLennanNorth Melbourne Town Hall, 1972. Taken from Corner of Errol & Queensberry Streets.Notes: B&W. It appears to be be a sunny day. Tram lines can be seen in the foreground, criss-crossing like an industrial spider's web. The scene is surprisingly void of any sign of human presence or activity. A row of public telephone booths can be seen on the left of the town hall, along Queensberry St.The site was originally the town Courthouse, and building of the Town hall was completed in early 1876. The cost was £12,000 (approx. $2,116,000.00 in 2020).(Source: https://www.measuringworth.com/calculators/australiacompare/relativevalue.php).The building was designed by architect Mr. George R. Johnson, and the contractor was Mr. David Parry.(Source: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/60447008)The building was renamed North Melbourne Town Hall in August, 1887 when the town was renamed North Melbourne.
