The former site of the McEwan machinery stores. It was purchased by James Angus Munro in 1910. Mr Munro's company, Jas A Munro & Co, was a manufacturer of bedding and wire mattresses. In 1906 the business expanded and entered the motor car trade, importing Clement-Bayard cars from France. Expanding further, and on this site, the company became involved with motor-body construction. At the time of purchase of this property the company was conducting business around the corner at 493-503 Elizabeth Street. In 1932 the site was cleared and the present buildings were built in conjunction with the property at 143-151 Therry Street. The site is still owned by the Munro family.
