Event: Local history week - a feast of cultureBlurbs:Take a walk with us along historic City Road, hear about the treasures of North Melbourne’s local history collection, see the Great War exhibition at East Melbourne Library and enjoy an antique roadshow with expert Lester DeVere at Library at The Dock..CITY ROAD: MELBOURNE’S FIRST ROADBefore European settlement Melbourne’s indigenous inhabitants walked a common path from the Yarra to the coast, arriving at what we now call Sandridge beach. From1835 Europeans followed this path which became known as Sandridge Road, Melbourne’s first road. Today we know it as City Road. Though only a small suburb, there were over 770 service people with some connection through birth, work, or housing to East Melbourne.WHEN: 16 Oct-11 Nov WHERE: East Melbourne Library..TREASURES OF DOCKLANDSJoin Lester DeVere as he shares his 30 plus years’ experience in the Antique and Collectibles world. Lester will evaluate antique items and collectibles brought in by theaudience. He will also give advice on collecting and selling antiques.
