The City of Melbourne Building Applications Index indicates that a permit to construct the house was issued on 15 May 1929, the value of the house noted as #700. The first occupant of the house was recorded in the Sands & McDougall directories as Cecil Bradford, who remained in the house for almost 10 years..Description:The house at 96 Bayswater Road is a single-storey inter-War weatherboard bungalow with a half-hipped terracotta tiled roof and two similarly-roofed projecting bays. The verandah has rendered brick piers with face brick bases and sits beneath a shingled gable end. The smaller projecting bay contains a bow window. Windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes..Significance:The house at 96 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house demonstrates the diversity of development which occurred in Kensington during the inter-War period. Of note are the half-hipped roofs, shingled and half-timbered gable ends and the bow window. The house is substantially intact and contributes to the streetscape.
