Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1912History:The house at 4 Belmont Road was built c.1912 on part of Lot 46 of a large 1897 subdivision which saw most of Kensington, Bayswater and Belmont Roads subdivided into suburban lots with 44 to 50 foot frontages. The Sands & McDougall directories for 1913 list the house as 'vacant'; the following year the house was occupied by John A Davis, who remained there until at least 1916..Description:The house at 4 Belmont Road is a single-storey block-fronted weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a hipped and gabled roof and a set back side entrance. The skillion-profile verandah has turned timber posts and no decoration. Windows appear to be original timber-framed double-hung sash windows. Alterations include the re-cladding of the roof. The woven wire front fence is not original..Significance:The house at 4 Belmont Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historical interest. It is an intact representative example of small Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in Kensington in the early twentieth century. It contributes to the intact Belmont Road streetscape.
