General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1911History:The house at 46 Kensington Road was constructed c.1911. One of the first four houses built on the north side of Kensington Road, it is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1912, when the occupant was George Wigley, who remained in the house for two years before moving further west to a newly-constructed building at No. 72. Wigley, a builder, may have been responsible for the construction of both houses..Description:The house at 46 Kensington Road is a single-storey block-fronted Edwardian villa built on an L-shaped plan and with a corrugated galvanised steel roof. The projecting bay is gabled and has notched weatherboards and timber fretwork to the gable end. The adjacent verandah is supported on turned timber posts. The windows to the projecting bay are tripartite timber-framed casements with a timber bracketed hood. The chimney is of red brick chimney with a roughcast rendered capping and a terracotta pot..Significance:The house at 46 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is representative of the development in the area in the early twentieth century. Aesthetically, the house is an intact example of the Edwardian timber villas which were constructed in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
