Grading as at 1985 : CPeriod : Mid Victorian (1892)Grantee : W Elson 1867In 1892-93 this former house was built for James Rutherford who had been a carpenter. He owned and occupied the house at least until 1895.A one-storey smooth ashlar stuccoed brick villa on a bayed plan with a slated hip roof and return, concave roof verandah of cast-iron. Notable features include the verandah decoration; verandah roof and structure; conservatory - end of side verandah.Architecturally, a near original villa representing a form type unusual in the area and possessing typical ornament for its period: of high local importance. Historically, owned by one of the many owner-builders so typical of the area: of local importance.
