General notes:
Image held by North Melbourne Library. ICI House, now known as Orica House. It was the first fully glazed wall skyscraper in Australia, being a nineteen storey concrete office building with framed glazed walling and two basement levels. It was designed in the international style by Bates Smart & McCutcheon. The building contractor was E. A. Watts Pty Ltd and construction began in September 1956 and completed in 1958. The site was purchased in 1951 for £88,000 and the completed project cost £3 million. It was opened on Thursday 11th December by the Chairman of Imperial Chemical Industries Sir Alexander Fleck. At 83.80m it was Australia's tallest building up until 1961. It features a landscaped garden designed by John Stevens and sculptor Gerald Lewers.
