General notes:
Period: VictorianConstruction date: 1896History:The house at 25 Bayswater Road first appears in the 1895-1896 rate books as a four room wooden house valued at 2 pounds. The house was owned and occupied by James Burgess, a fellmonger, who resided in the cottage for over a decade. By 1905, the four-room house was valued at 12 pounds..Description:The house at 25 Bayswater Road is a Victorian single storey double-fronted weatherboard with a corrugated galvanised steel transverse gabled roof. The house has a corrugated galvanised steel roofed verandah supported on timber posts embellished with cast iron lacework. Timber-framed double-hung sashes flank the central timber-panelled entrance door. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 25 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is representative of the type of modest housing which was constructed in Kensington during the late nineteenth century. The house is intact and makes a positive contribution to the surrounding streetscape. It has a visual relationship with the adjacent No. 27.
