The building was designed with six storeys by architect Augustus Andrew Fritsch to the order of Messrs Pellegrini and Co for the Catholic church and constructed in 1926. Perhaps due to the economic depression of the time the building only reached two storeys. Constructed of reinforced concrete, Coreglia House incorporated ground floor shop frontages and upper storey accommodation for offices and clubrooms (Fritsch 1890-1920, SLV; West Australian 17 July 1926:9).The National Bank of Australasia Limited purchased Coreglia House, a two-storey building with basement, in March 1937. Occupied by Myerson tailors and two other tenants in that year, a newspaper report of the day announced that the building was to be altered to house the bank branch office then located in the Tattersalls Buildings at 250 Swanston Street. The National Bank commenced operations from 275-279 Swanston Street on 18 October 1937 (Argus 25 March 1937:14; Argus 15 October 1937:1).___________________________NEWSPAPERS:1926Catholic Tea Rooms.COREGLIA HOUSE, CORNER OF SWANSTON AND LONSDALE STREETS.The Catholic ^Women's Committee in charge of the tea rooms at Coregtia House, corner of Swanston and Lonsdale streets, is making good headway. The number of regular patrons is Increasing.Taken all round, the patronage-extended so far is very heartening to the committee and the success of the tea rooms seems to be now assured..The Herald (Melbourne, Vic. : 1861 - 1954) Wed 7 Jul 1926 Page 14SWANSTON STREET NORTHFoy s Not AloneAnother Big BuildingIt is only within very recent times that the northern portion of the city has received attention from the large business Interests. The city, checked on one side by the river and the central railway -station, is now rapidly advancing north. Foy and Gibson's propose erecting a large department store on the site presently occupied by the Orient Hotel, corner of Bourke and Swanston streets; Myer's Store I runs right through from Bourke to Lonsdale streets, and their latest building now occupies a largo portion of Lonsdale street frontage, so that the area extending between Swanston and Elizabeth streets bids fair to rival Bourke or Elizabeth streets as a shopping centre,Coreglia House,- on the corner of Swanston and Lonsdale streets, almost opposite the Melbourne Hospital, replaces an old hotel, which having been delicensed was torn down for the new building to be erected. Constructed entirely in reinforced concrete, it has been designed to carry six stories, with a basement. The basement and two stories have already been completed and the owners, Messrs Pellegrini and Co., of-297 Elizabeth street, propose to proceed ..with the remaining storeys at an early date, The portion erected consists of a large, well lighted basement, complete with automatic mechanical ventilation, etc. The ground floor comprises four shops, with frontages to two streets, and the main entrance to the building, the walls of which have been lined with terrazo tiles and with .granolithic floors and staircases. The remaining floor .has been let for club purposes. The building is fire- proof throughout, The work' was carried out by Mr H. P. Brady, master builder. Mr A. A. Fritsch, F.R.V.I.A., was the architect..1937The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957)Thursday 25 March 1937 - Page 14https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/11051911The property on the south-west corner of Swanston and Lonsdale streets, comprising a two-story building with basement, known as Coreglia House, and which has been occupied for some years by Myerson, tailors, and two other tenants has been bought by the National Bank of Australasia Limited The property has a frontage of 26ft 71n to Swanston street by a depth of 19ft along Lonsdale street On the expiration of the existing leases this j ear the building will be altered to house the branch office of the bank now in Tattersall’s Buildings, on the opposite side of Swanston street
