It is first listed in Sands & McDougall directory in 1912, when it was occupied by Hugo G Leech, who remained there until at least 1918. The house is now occupied by MacKillop Family Services..Description:The house at 35 Gower Street is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian villa with a steeply pitched hipped and gabled roof. L-shaped in plan, the house has a projecting gabled section with a half-timbered and roughcast rendered gable end. A skillion-roofed verandah has timber posts and a simple timber fretted frieze. Chimneys are of red brick with terracotta pots and rendered cappings. Alterations include the recladding of the roof with metal tray decking and the replacement of the original windows with tripartite double-hung sashes with fixed central panes, which appear to date from the inter-War period. The low cream brick fence is also not original..Significance:The house at 35 Gower Street, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. It is a reasonably intact example of the type of larger timber villas which were built in Kensington in the 1910s. The house is representative of a major phase of development of much of Kensington.
