General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1916History:The houses at 64-66 Kensington Road was constructed c.1916. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1917, when the occupants were Stephen A Tugwell and Albert E Porter respectively, both of whom were still in residence in 1920..Description:The houses at 64-66 Kensington Road are a pair of single-storey weatherboard Edwardian cottages with corrugated galvanised steel gabled roofs. Each house has a skillion-roofed verandah; that at No. 64 retains its original turned timber posts. Windows are timber-framed casements with highlights, and the entrances have side and fanlights. An original red brick chimney survives at No. 64, and has a corbelled cap. The timber picket fences are not original..Significance:The houses at 64-66 Kensington Road, Kensington, are of local historical and aesthetic interest. The pair are an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
