It is one of a number of houses on the south side of Westbourne Road constructed in the period 1910-12. The first definite listing of the house in the Sands & McDougall directory is in 1913, when the occupant of the house is listed as James McPherson..Description:The house at 53 Westbourne Road is a single-storey, double-fronted weatherboard Edwardian villa with a corrugated galvanised steel hipped roof with bracketed eaves. Symmetrically composed, the timber-panelled entrance door is flanked by timber-framed double-hung sash windows. A verandah extends across the facade, supported on turned timber posts; the frieze decoration has been removed. The house is obscured by dense shrubbery..Significance:The house at 53 Westbourne Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is representative of the development in the area in the early twentieth century. Aesthetically, the house is an intact example of the Edwardian timber villas which were constructed in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
