General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1915History:The house at 29 Bayswater Road first appears in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1915. The first occupant of the house is recorded as James Burgess, previously a resident at No. 25, who remained in the house for over 15 years..Description:The house at 29 Bayswater Road is a single storey block fronted Edwardian house with a L-shaped plan. The corrugated galvanised steel hipped and gable roof has timber eaves brackets, between which are decorative diamond shaped timber panels. The verandah has a bullnose profile corrugated galvanised steel roof supported on timber posts, and has particularly ornate cast iron decoration. The window opening to the projecting bay has a corrugated galvanised steel hood with timber fretted brackets and valance. Windows are tripartite timber frame casements and the entrance door has narrow sidelights. The brick chimney has a rendered capping. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 29 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic importance. The house is representative of the more substantial villas which were erected in Kensington during the early decades of the twentieth century. The house is an intact and particularly ornate example of the Edwardian period and makes an important contribution to the surrounding streetscape, sharing some details with No.29.
