IMPROVING KING STREET. Former Fear of "Pushes."Among the hotels which came up for consideration at the deprivation sittings at the Licensing Court yesterday was the Kilkenny Inn, at the corner of Lonsdale and King streets. The Chairman (Mr. R. Barry) said that in this locality there were several "pushes" and the previous licensee had given it as her opinion that no woman could run the hotel " Police evidence was that the conduct of the hotel had improved under the present licensee, Mrs Christina Grave for whom Mr. Doyle appeared Mrs. Grave said that she desired additional accommodation lo the extent to about six more single bedrooms. About 300 meals a week served at the Hotel. Mr L. J. Murphy, who appeared for the owner (Mrs Ellen Horgan) said that the owner intended to incorporate the ad joining bag factory in the hotel premises at the expiry of the lease of the factory.She realised the importance of the locality and was very desirous of saving the license.Mr Lock a member of the court, said that a wonderful change had come over King street… the properties would become so valuable…the better course- to add to the existing building’.
