A dairyman, H. Louie owned and occupied the house around 1880 and he sold it to Dennis Wadick. a North Melbourne contractor, councillor and mayor, in 1885. The building was owned and occupied by him for the next 10 years at least.A native of England, Kay Noble arrived in the colony in 1854 and began his successful building career in 1860. He contributed to many fine Melbourne buildings and was responsible for that .. 'extensive pile known as the Victoria Buildings' , on the site of the present City Square, corner of Collins and Swanston Streets. [Victoria and its Metropolis vol 2B p 648-649]Description- A single storey stuccoed brick house with a double return cast iron concave roofed verandah, which is terminated on side bays, a symmetrical elevation and overall Italianate hipped roof form and detail. Corrugated iron clads the roof and cast iron comprises the double palisade fence, panelled posts and gate which encloses the garden pathway and the carriage driveway to the east which leads to a large timber stable at the rear. Minor alterations apart, the house and fence are near original. One of a variety of 19th and early 20th century houses in this area, representing the large detached villas which once concentrated here.Integrity - Minor alterations apart, the house and fence are near original excepting the colours and the unsympathetic planting of the front garden where two circular beds and pathways once existed.Streets cape - One of a variety of 19th and early 20th century houses in this area, representing the large detached villas which once concentrated here.Significance- Architecturally, the house is an early near original example of its type, with fences, paving, carriage drive and stables still extant ; this type being not well represented in the study area. Historically its connection with two builders who were active in the area and one being prominent outside of the locality (Noble) lends it regional significance..Recommendations - Repaint in original or typical colours; consider replanting front garden to original plan with exotic content..References cited 1983:(RB= Rate book; D= Melbourne or Victoria Directory)1 D. 1870 ;2.
