General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1915History:The house at 33 Westbourne Road was constructed c.1915. It is listed in the Sands & McDougall directory of that year as 'vacant'. The first tenant was Ernest R Sauer, who lived there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 33 Westbourne Road is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian cottage with a hipped roof with bracketed eaves. Raised on a high plinth, the verandah is accessed by a flight of stairs to one side. The side entrance is located within a recessed porch. Alterations include the replacement of the original verandah posts with steel columns, removal of the verandah frieze decoration, the addition of a steel balustrade and glazed screen to the verandah and the recladding of the roof in artificial tiles. The woven wire fence is also not original..Significance:The house at 33 Westbourne Road is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
